Emirates launches first Airbus A350 with Dubai-Edinburgh flight: All you need to know | Business News

Emirates celebrated the commercial debut of its first Airbus A350-900 with a maiden flight from Dubai to Edinburgh on January 4, 2025. The A350 is the first of 65 such aircraft joining Emirates’ fleet, showcasing advanced technology, improved fuel efficiency, and a next-generation cabin design.
The inaugural flight, EK23, departed Dubai at 14.50 and landed in Edinburgh at 19.05 local time. Passengers enjoyed specially curated Scottish-inspired menus and received commemorative certificates to mark the occasion.
Aircraft highlights
The A350 features three cabin classes, accommodating 312 passengers with 32 Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 Premium Economy seats, and 259 Economy Class seats. Other amenities include:
- 4K HDR Screens for enhanced inflight entertainment.
- Faster Wi-Fi connectivity across all destinations.
- Wide aisles and high ceilings for greater comfort.
- The aircraft is also the most fuel-efficient large widebody in commercial service and boasts the quietest twin-aisle cabin.
Passengers aboard the A350 can enjoy Emirates’ new AVANT Up inflight entertainment system, developed with Thales. Features include:
- Bluetooth pairing for two devices simultaneously.
- 60W USB-C fast charging ports.
- Personalised recommendations based on viewing history.
Routes and connectivity
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, pointed to its advanced inflight products and the importance of the Edinburgh-Dubai route. Edinburgh Airport Chief Commercial Officer Kate Sherry welcomed the new aircraft, noting its role in strengthening Scotland’s connectivity to the world.
Over the next few months, the A350 will connect Dubai to eight more destinations, including Mumbai, Muscat, and Bologna.
