After Air India, Indigo and Vistara cancel flights to Bangladesh scheduled for Tuesday | Business News

Indigo and Vistara on Tuesday announced the cancellation of all flight operations to and from Bangladesh, a day after Air India announced a similar suspension in view of the ongoing political unrest in the neighbouring country that claimed over 100 lives this weekend.
Further, Air India confirmed the cancellation of its Tuesday morning flight to Dhaka. A decision will be taken later in the day on whether it will operate its evening flight to Dhaka, an airline official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
As per regular operations, Air India has two flights daily to Dhaka from Delhi. Vistara operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka.
“In view of the emerging situation in Bangladesh, we have cancelled the scheduled operation of our flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Dhaka with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges,” an Air India spokesperson had said in a statement on Monday.
The company also asked its passengers to contact on their 24/7 Contact Centre at 011-69329333 / 011-69329999.
Air India’s announcement on Monday came as the student protestors took to the streets opposing a 30 per cent quota in government jobs for those who fought in the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Their protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took a violent turn, claiming over 100 lives on Sunday and another six on Monday. As the violence escalated, Hasina went on to resign and fled country. She is currently in India until she receives asylum in the UK.
