IndiGo to be first carrier to operate from Navi Mumbai airport, starting with 18 daily flights | Business News


IndiGo is scheduled to be the first carrier to launch commercial flights from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). In collaboration with Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), IndiGo has planned 18 daily flights to more than 15 cities, starting from day one of NMIA operations, with expansion plans in the works.

IndiGo plans to expand operations to 79 daily flights, including 14 international flights, by the end of November 2025. This number is projected to grow to more than 100 daily flights by March 2026 and to 140 daily flights by the end of November 2026, with 30 of those international.

NMIA is a greenfield airport project under development through a public-private partnership. A special purpose vehicle, Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL), was created for its development with Mumbai International Airport Limited (a subsidiary of AAHL) holding 74 per cent and City And Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) Of Maharashtra holding 26 per cent.

Although the airport has not officially announced an inauguration date, Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, stated during his visit in March 2025 that the airport is expected to be inaugurated by June 2025.

Arun Bansal, CEO, AAHL, said, “We are delighted to announce IndiGo as the first airline partner to commence operations from NMIA. This partnership marks a major step towards confirming NMIA’s position as a transfer hub for domestic and international travellers.”

The airport will initially cater to 2 crore passengers a year and 8 lakh metric tonnes of cargo. At full capacity, it will be able to cater to 9 crore passengers and handle 32 lakh metric tonnes of cargo annually. Spanning over 2,866 acres, NMIA is being constructed with a futuristic theme drawing inspiration from the lotus flower, which is India’s national flower, and will have eco-friendly features like green energy and green construction.
